Margaret S. Thompson
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, November 14, 2015, Mrs. Margaret Stovall Thompson, 87, loving wife of 62 years to the late Robert Wade Thompson. She was the daughter of the late Lennie Lee Stovall and Annie Lee Stovall of Elberton, GA.
A native of Elberton, Mrs. Thompson was the Salutatorian of Elbert County High School. In 1949, she graduated from the University of Georgia with honors, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Home Economics. She was a longtime supporter of the University of Georgia and the Augusta Bulldog Club. She was the first woman to work for the Georgia Power Company in Home and Design. She was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. She was a longtime member of the Hill Baptist Church and the Emanuel Sunday School Class. She served on various committees at the Hill including: Beatification, Property, and Space, Constitution and By-Laws, Policy, and Procedure committees. She was a faithful WMU member. Mrs. Thompson’s most important attribute was her selfless love and devotion to her family. She was beloved by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. There is comfort in the knowledge that she is resting in the arms of the Lord.
Family members include her daughters: Cynthia Thompson Smith of Martinez, GA, Judith Thompson MacDonell and husband Alexander H. MacDonell III of Augusta, GA and Lisa Thompson Cooper and husband Christopher H. Cooper of Augusta, GA; grandchildren: Karen Henson and husband James Henson, Amy John and husband Martin John, Alexander H. MacDonell IV and wife Charlotte MacDonnell, Kathryn MacDonell, and Robert T. MacDonell; great-grandchild: Margaret John; sister: Louise Stovall; and brother: Jim Stovall and wife Gloria Stovall. .
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Reverend Fred Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law: Alexander H. MacDonnell, Christopher H. Cooper; grandsons: Alexander H. MacDonell, IV, Robert T. MacDonell; nephew: Steve Stovall and James M. Henson.
