N. Augusta, SC – Margie was a loving, fun, vivacious wife, mother, sister, nana, great nana, aunt, and friend. She was the light of so many as her positive approach in life led her to honest beliefs, which led others to do the same. She was a trusting soul which led her to many lifelong friends who would rely on her companionship, friendship, love and laughter.
Margie was born in Augusta, GA to the late Wallace and Margaret McManus where she continued living for 79 years and then relocated to North Augusta, SC. During her young teenage life, Margie loved to dance, in fact winning the first-place trophy which was the second trophy to ever be given by WJBF’s Top Ten Dance Party. Margie was a graduate of the 1961 class of Richmond Academy then became a dental assistant for several years then graduated as a dental hygienist for 25 years. After retiring, she became a volunteer for different organizations one including Trinity Hospital, where she was a Pink Lady in the HR department and the gift shop. She was a wonderful cook and loved to prepare dinner for all holidays. She loved playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, cooking, Elvis, and the Georgia Bulldogs, but most importantly she loved her family and loved being a wife.
Her husband, Michael Rae, was a relationship of constant love and devotion for 51 years. They often traveled with the CSRA Shag Club. One of her favorite destinations was Beaufort, SC which she called her “Happy Place”. She adored all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Family members, in addition to her husband, include her daughters: Pamela Self of Royston, GA, and Juanita “Winnie” Sullivan of Royston, GA; son in law: John Sullivan; 7 grandchildren: Amy Rushton Dickerson, Erin Rushton Brady, Shad Tuten, Samantha Hough, Derek Roberts, Alex Roberts, and Katy Williams; 16 great grandchildren; brother: Thomas McManus (Linda). In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Michael L. "Mikie" Rae, Jr., and brothers, Wallace Payne McManus and James McManus.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 12:00 until 1:45 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 P.M. in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be John Sullivan, Mike Tuten, Alex Roberts, Derek Roberts, Kyle Dickerson, and Hayden Holliday.
