Margie Shaffer
Grovetown, GA – Margie R. Shaffer lived a full, happy life and passed from this world to be with our Lord in Heaven Tuesday, January 29, 2019. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, Grandmother, and friend who always had a smile for everyone.
Margie was predeceased by her husband John of 57 years, seven sisters, and five brothers. She is survived by her three children, Peggy Wajdowicz, John Ripley Shaffer, Jr. and Sheila Babcock, seven grandchildren, twelve great -grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Family was an important and essential part of her life. She loved all of her large extended family.
Margie was an intelligent woman who valued the importance of education. “Learn something new every day” was her motto. She started out as a waitress in her future husband’s restaurant and then became a self-taught accountant for John’s construction business. In her spare time she went to modeling school and modeled locally. Later she attended beauty school and became a licensed hairdresser and opened her own shop. Her next venture was Nursing School where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse, working in a hospital setting. Her career continued when she became an exceptional Real Estate Agent, highly respected by her co-workers and clients. Her final job was as a caretaker of a 96 year old man, whom she cared for through his final days. Margie was a hard worker and instilled in others the importance of a strong work ethic. She was able to pursue all of her dreams because of the support of her loving husband.
In her younger days, Margie enjoyed riding her motorcycle. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. Chicken and Dumplings was her specialty. She enjoyed the old songs from days gone by and her favorite was “You Are My Sunshine”. Throughout her many careers and busy life, Margie raised her family and maintained a happy and loving home.
Margie believed in the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. She had an open heart and accepted all people, treating them with dignity and respect.
The funeral service will be Friday, February 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Dr. David McKinley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the time of service. Burial will be private.
