Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Marian Campbell Martin, 95.
Marian “Nan” was born in McCormick, S.C. in 1928. She was married to Shorty Martin for nearly 70 years and raised two daughters in the Augusta area. Nan played the organ for Westminster Presbyterian church during the Sunday services for 50 years where she also served as the choir director. Her later years were spent enjoying being an active member of Lakemont Presbyterian Church. Nan stayed home to raise her children and used her spare time to volunteer for other roles with the church such as teaching Sunday school and organizing the youth choir, known as the David Singers. Shorty and Nan were well known for visiting senior citizens weekly both at their homes and in nursing homes around town. Nan loved to sew and cook and spent many hours crocheting household items for her family and friends. She loved to cook for her family, especially holidays, and will forever be remembered for her “concrete egg” recipe.
Family members include her daughters: Joan Gindlesperger (Steve) and Joy Young; grandchildren: Shaun Gindlesperger (Becky), Banks Tate, and Holly Rhea (Alex) and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert R. “Shorty” Martin; five siblings and son-in-law: Kenneth Young.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Jerry Gay and Rev. Bryan Villarreal officiating. Interment will be private in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Banks Tate, Shaun Gindlesperger, Alex Rhea, Bryce Gindlesperger, Mike Smith, Hugh Wilkie, Hunter Young, Jarred Young, Mike Lindsay, Jim Felton, Ronnie Martin, Ron Honeycutt, Stan Martin and Steve Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lakemont Presbyterian Church, 411 Pleasant Home Road, Augusta, GA 30907.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484.
