Marie Scavullo Saegert
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, January 8, 2011, Marie Scavullo Saegert, 91, loving wife of 67 years to the late Gerald F. Saegert.
Marie was born New York City in 1919. She graduated from St. Patrick Cathedral High School and Mount Saint Vincent College in New Rochelle, NY.
She worked in publishing after graduation and modeled for her brother, Francesco Scavullo, a famous fashion photographer. She married Gerald Seagert in 1943. Marie and Gerry lived on Park Avenue in New York City before moving to Augusta in 1979.
Marie and Gerry were members of the Westchester and Augusta Country Clubs where they were avid golfers. Marie won many golf tournaments in her lifetime. She was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Azalea Garden Club.
Always the consummate hostess, Marie turned her Augusta condo into a Park Avenue apartment and hosted many dinner and cocktail parties there. She loved to play the piano and accordion and entertained at many social functions.
Marie is survived by her brother Charles J. Scavullo, Sr. and nieces and nephews, Charles Scavullo, Jr. (Mary Helen), Brenda Durant (Ed), Joyce Scavullo Kelley, Alice Atchison (Mark), Kay Jesse (Phil), Marie Seitz (John), Frank Scavullo, Joseph V. Scott (Reita), Barbara Feliciano Pinkerton (Richard), Angela Scott (Dan), Robert Scavullo (Barbara), Helen Fitzgerald, Jane Warwick, and Margee Melton. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Angela and Angelo Scavullo, her brothers Victor and Francesco Scavullo and her sister Margaret Scott.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the management and staff of Brookdale Place, Rescare Homecare, and Heartland Hospice, all of whom provided loving care for Marie over the past weeks and months.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Rev. John Tran celebrant. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her nephews and great nephews. A Vigil will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. at the church and the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
