Rev. Marion L. Jay
Augusta, GA – Rev. Marion L. Jay, 91, of Augusta went to be with the Lord
Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was born in Saluda, SC to the late John Edgar and Elisabeth (Lizzie) Rice Jay.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise D. Jay of 56 years, and siblings Ruth Stennett, Edna Hill, Vera Rhoden, Lamar Jay and Hoyt Jay.
He is survived by his wife: Bertha McTier Jay; 3 children: Patricia Milburn, David Jay, and Gary Jay; son-in-law: Dwain Milburn; daughter-in-law: Donna Jay; six grandchildren: Lee Jowers, Nick Jowers, Dwayne Jay, Gwen Jay, Wesley Jay and Amanda Nelson; and nine great-grandchildren.
Rev. Jay is a WWII veteran, retired from DuPont, and served as Pastor at Sherwood Baptist Church from 1974 till 1987. He helped start a mission, Miracle Baptist Church, and filled in at many pulpits across the CSRA. He was currently a member of New Beginnings Community Baptist Church.
He was also known as the Singing Shepherd for he loved to sing and play his guitar. He also loved to fish every chance he got with his best friend Charlie Black. Rev. Jay was a very loving and compassionate man with strong convictions who loved his Lord and his family very deeply.
In his early years, he loved to sing and play country music, he even wrote and recorded a record, but the Lord had other plans for the country singer. He went straight to work on saving souls that were lost.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Wayne Todd officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Lee Jowers, Nick Jowers, Dwayne Jay, Wesley Jay, Gene Stennett, and Kameron Jay. Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Williams, Charlie Black, and Doug Stennett.
