Martha S. Capers

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, December 17, 2022, Mrs. Martha Strickland Capers, 90, wife of the late Mr. Frank W. Capers, Jr.

Martha was born in Johnson, SC. she was a graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC. She moved to Augusta and began working for the Georgia Railroad. Shortly afterwards, she met the love of her life. They attended Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church and became a founding family of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Later, she and Frank returned to Reid Memorial. Martha was a member of and held many roles in the Junior League of Augusta. She was also a member of Sun Dial Garden Club, Augusta Symphony Guild, Augusta Country Club, Camellia Bridge Club, and the Sewing Club. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed sharing her books with others. Martha was known for her culinary skills and her joy to entertain her family and friends. She was always the most gracious and welcoming hostess.

Family members include her children: Sallie Capers Metzel (Al), Frank Withers Capers, III (Sharon) and Rutledge Mann Capers (Shari); ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Martha was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Capers Sheetz.

A memorial service will be held at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, Saturday, January 7, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
