Martha Faye Mitchell Griffin
Augusta, Georgia - Martha Faye Mitchell Griffin, beloved wife and mother, entered into rest Monday, November 22, 2021.
Martha was born in Macon, Georgia and was the tenth child of eleven siblings born to Bessie Freeman and Robert P. Mitchell. She was devoted to her siblings. After losing her mother at an early age she was raised by her older sisters until she met and married the love of her life, Charlie Frank Griffin. They were married 65 years until his death in 2004. During her early marriage Martha influenced many children in Macon teaching kindergarten in her home while also helping her husband establish their family business, McClure, Baldwin and Griffin, now MBG Office Systems. Martha was an active member of the Macon Exchangette Club, always contributing several of her famous cakes to the Exchange Club booth at the fair and was a member of the Northwoods Garden Club. She enjoyed painting china, making porcelain dolls, attending Georgia football games, and the Mary Martha Sunday school class at Ingleside Baptist Church. Her two sons and her extended family were her greatest joy and pleasure.
A gentle influence for her children and grandchildren, Martha was blessed with many friends and family who saw each other through the joys and sorrows of life. A devoted Christian, she taught Sunday school classes at Cherokee Heights Baptist Church and later at Ingleside Baptist Church where she has retained her membership. She and her family were always in attendance at services and social events of the church. In 2013 Martha moved to Augusta, Georgia to be with her son, Rick.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Charlie Frank Griffin; son: Charlie Frank Griffin, Jr.; grandson: Charles Thayer Griffin., and all of her siblings. Survivors include her son: Rick W. Griffin (Sally); daughter in law: Gail B. Griffin; grandson: Chad Frank Griffin (Allison); granddaughter: Binford Griffin Richardson (Chris), and great grandchildren: Meg and Molly Griffin and many nieces and nephews whom she stayed in contact with and dearly loved.
Sincere gratitude is extended to her loving caregivers Linda Kendall, Kim Bodie, Judy Miles, Jenny Hunt and Joyce Comiska who became her dear and trusted companions and friends. Thanks, also to Trinity Hospice in Augusta. Kathy, Darry, Tom and Janice were exceptional and compassionate caregivers to Martha and counselors to her family.
Donations deeply appreciated to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Rd, Macon, GA 31210.
