Mrs. Mary Alice Bailey Kemp
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, December 20, 2011, Mrs. Mary Alice Bailey Kemp, 90, wife of Harry Kemp, Sr. of Martinez.
Mrs. Kemp was a native of Harlem, GA. She was employed by Southern Bell in Atlanta during the early 1940’s and at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta where she met her future husband returning from World War II. Mrs. Kemp returned to Augusta in the 1970’s and lived with her husband Harry at their home on South Belair Road in Martinez. Later in life she suffered with dementia and Alzheimer’s and lived the final years of her life at Westwood Nursing Home in Evans.
Mrs. Kemp was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother always showing love and concern for her family, friends, and others. She always had a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She would often speak fondly of her years growing up on the family farm near Harlem, GA.
Family members in addition to her husband include sons and daughters-in-law: Harry Jr. and Gayle Kemp of Cumming, GA, Richard and Heidi Kemp of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren: Andrea, Katie, Max Kemp; sister: Julia Wall of Thomson, GA; brother and sister-in-law: Dr. and Mrs. Martin (Bill) Bailey of Cairo, GA; and nieces and nephews: Eddie Wall, Lee Bailey, and Lynn Wriggley. She was predeceased by her parents: Joe and Kate Bailey.
Graveside services will be held Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Cemetery.
