Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, August 18, 2022, Mrs. Mary Grimsley Ammon, 83, loving wife of Ronald Lewis Ammon, Sr. went home to the loving arms of her savior, Jesus Christ.
Mary was born and raised in Augusta, GA. She was a loving, devoted military wife, mother, sister, and daughter. She loved her family beyond measure! She was the solid rock of our family. Family members all turned to her during troubled times, knowing she would always be there to share her deep love, knowledge, and provide any type of assistance and help. Mary brought comfort, security, and always shared her love, resources, and strength to help us all weather life’s storms/struggles.
Mary was blessed with a beautiful Soprano voice and previously sang with the Augusta Choral Society, and in church choirs during her travels. She enjoyed classical music, Opera, and playing the piano.
She was extremely intelligent and continued her education, love of learning, and reading throughout her life. She attended the University of Chicago, University of Georgia, and Augusta College. She worked for 20+ years as a Cytotechnologist/Histotechnologist for multiple hospitals in her travels and retired from University Hospital here in Augusta. After retiring, Mary continued her education by attending Augusta College and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a minor in Music.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald L. Ammon, Sr.; her children, Judith Ammon Evers (Robert); son: Ronald Lewis Ammon, Jr.; grandchildren: Matthew Evers and Katherine Briggs (Keenan); great-grandchildren: Ellani Evers, Lillian Briggs, Owen Briggs, and Baker Briggs; her sisters: Mrs. Betty Koch (Anaheim, CA), Ms. Jane Grimsley (Longwood, FL), and Mrs. Brenda Riley (Huntsville, AL); her brother, David N. Grimsley (Roswell, GA); her cousin, Miriam P. Bowling (Dearing, GA); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Bessie Melton Grimsley; her brother, William A. Grimsley, Jr.; and her sister, Mrs. Sarah F. Ray.
A private graveside service will be held at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Dewayne Carter officiating.
