Mary Ann Goley
Augusta, GA – Mary Ann Goley arrived at her destination to our Lord and Savior on Monday, November 24, 2014. Her journey began peacefully at home surrounded by many who loved her. She was born at Fort Benning, Georgia on May 24, 1932 to Wyman P. Blackwell and Thelma Andrews Blackwell. She was the oldest of seven children. The family remained in the Augusta/North Augusta area most of her young life. She is a graduate of Davison and Tubman Schools. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willard C. Goley, Jr., her parents and 6 siblings.
Mary Ann and Willard Goley operated Goley’s Barbeque in Beech Island, SC for many years prior to their retirement to Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, SC. For their 20 years as residents, they equally enjoyed playing “at” golf, gardening and entertaining grandchildren as often as they could. They were happily married for 37 years.
She is survived by the loves of her life children, Lisa Marie Hancock (Dennis), Rock Hill, SC, Cheryl Cheek Tyson (Sam), Augusta, GA and her grandchildren, Karen Cheek Gallup, Chicago, IL, Christopher Michael Cheek, Augusta, GA , Alexander McCarthy Hancock, Rock Hill, SC , Addison Lee Hancock (Tess) Rocky Mount, VA and her five great-grandchildren, Cameron Gallup, Hayden Gallup, Emerson Gallup, Lucas Cheek and Ryan Cheek. She spent time whenever possible talking to her dear sister, Marie Kojnok (Nashua, NH) and playing with the “orange boys”, cats, Itzy and Fritz. She loved her birds, her roses, and the wild cats that she cared for.
The family would like to recognize the outstanding care she received during the final stages of her illness with special thanks to Rebecca Heffner, and Senior Sitters, Elizabeth Young along with Dee and Linda, and Trinity Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held at noon in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904 on Friday, November 28, 2014. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Sam and Cheryl Tyson, 2403 William Street, Augusta, GA. Burial will be in the Linnwood Cemetery, Graham, NC.
