Augusta, GA – Mary Boyd Durham Barfield, 92, entered into the arms of her Savior on May 7, 2014, at her home.

Mrs. Barfield was born and raised in Woodville, Georgia on December 7, 1921. She was one of 12 children of Alexander Franklin and Helen McWhorter Durham. She was a graduate of South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia and of Emory School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduation she entered the U.S. Army during World War II. She was a Lieutenant, having served as a nurse in the Army Medical Corp.

She was dearly loved and admired by her husband of sixty years, Dr. William E. Barfield, Sr. and their 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, as well as many other family members and friends. Family members include her two sons: Dr. William Barfield, Jr. (Michele), Dr. Robert D. Barfield (Diane), three daughters: Elizabeth Lynne Childers (the late Terry Childers), Lucia Anne Small (the late John Small), and Carol Barfield Woodall (Jim).

Her grandchildren are children of Dr. William Barfield, Jr. (Michele), Dr. William E. Barfield, III (Robin), Robert Benjamin Barfield (Kerry) and Mark Barfield; Dr. Robert Durham Barfield (Diane), Lauren Barfield Kirchberg (Jason), Mary Boyd Barfield Colley (Judson), Carolyn Barfield Green (Jeff); Lynne Barfield Childers (the late Terry O. Childers),Terry O. Childers, Jr., Scott Barfield Childers (Kristie), Jason Lee Childers (Stephanie), Matthew W. Childers, Sally Childers Murray (Calvin); Lucia Anne Barfield Small (the late John Small), Mary Allison Ross (Tony), Stacy Player, John K. Small, Jr. (Julie), Stephen Barfield Small (Ashley); Carol Boyd Barfield Woodall (Jim), Dr. James William Woodall, Jr. (Katherine), Carol Lindsey Baker (Jason); sisters: Julia Lowe Oliver and Doris Tanner.

There will be a graveside service at Woodville Cemetery in Woodville, Georgia on Saturday, May 17, 2014 with Rev. Allen Faulkner. The family will visit with friends at 1:00 P.M. and the service will be at 3:00 P.M.

The family would like to thank University Hospice and nurse, Carol Mulherin, and staff for their kind and loving care.
