Augusta, GA – Mary Barrett wife of the late Sam Barrett passed away peacefully at her home on November 6th at the age of 87.
Born on April 1st to the late Edwin & Atwell Corbitt. Born on April Fools Day was so fitting because she loved to play jokes on everyone. Mary worked for 7-Eleven for many years then went to work in the cafeteria at Evans Elementary School where the kids loved her grits and buttery toast. She loved to bake her famous Red Velvet and pound cakes and her delicious chocolate chip cookies for family and friends.
Mary was known as Mom to the late Jimmy Barrett, Machelle (Tim) Rivers and Sylvia Ivey who lived and cared for our Mom for the last 5 years with so much love and dedication. After a 10-year battle with dementia she is finally free.
She was Nana to Pam, Rosa, Richie, Kalie, Chad, Samantha, Alex, Savanna, Noah, Gavin and Harper. In addition to her children and grandchildren she was survived by her sister-in-law Sharon (David) Lehew.
Our family would like to thank Pat Hanley for helping us whenever we needed a caregiver and Heartland Hospice for making her final weeks comforting.
There will be no service at this time. Please say a prayer as we start our new journey without our beloved Mom. We love you Mom
