Mary Beachum

Mrs. Mary McCamy Beachum passed away Friday, May 3, 2024 at the age of 78 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Mr. Edward N. Beachum for 23 years. Mrs. Beachum was a native of Lindale, Ga, near Rome, and lived several places before returning to Rome, Ga where she became a librarian. After her husband’s passing, Mrs. Beachum moved with her family to Augusta, Ga in 1993. She was the daughter of the late Robert Julian McCamy and Charlotte Powers McCamy.

Mary was a graduate of Hollins College where she studied mathematics, Emory University where she received a masters of library science, and the University of South Carolina where she received a specialist degree in library science. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Augusta, where she served in various roles over time including Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher. Among her many interests were the communities she served, gardening, books, and travel. She devoted time to her friends, family, and grandchildren, Meals on Wheels, and her passion, GAP Ministries of Augusta.

Family include her children: daughter Julia Beachum Smith and her husband Dean of Matthews, NC., son Robert Arnold Beachum and his wife Tina of Grovetown, GA; brothers: Robert Julian McCamy Jr. and his wife Jean of Wake Forest, NC., Donald Howard McCamy and his wife Claire of Florence, AL., Charles Powers McCamy and his wife Martha of Hillsboro, NC; 6 grandchildren: Isabella Marie Smith of Charlotte, NC; Charlotte Elaine Beachum of Augusta, GA; Diana Lynne Kirkland of Grovetown, GA; Ian David Wood of Grovetown, GA; Andrew Edward Beachum of Augusta GA; and James Ezra Smith of Matthews, NC. She was preceded in death by her longtime friend Martha Ann Bertrand.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Augusta, GA with Revs Andy and Katelyn Cooke officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
