Augusta, GA – Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Murphy McKinney passed away Wednesday, October the 6th at The Place Nursing Home. She was born on Moore Ave. in Augusta Ga. on May 30th 1910. She was the daughter of the late George Fields Murphy and Dicey Elizabeth Newman Murphy and widow of the late William Leon McKinney, her husband of forty five years and retired from the King Mill. She remembered the fire of March 1916 that destroyed most of the downtown area of Augusta, the flood of October 1929 and the hardships of the great depression and World War II. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. McKinney is survived by her sons: Carlton (Margie) L. McKinney of Edgefield, SC and Richard (Joan) W. McKinney of Augusta; grandchildren: Rev. Daniel McKinney, Kim Nagy, Michael Davidson, Jennifer Wright, David McKinney and Carlene Guy; eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Westview Cemetery with Rev. Daniel McKinney officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Thompson, Theron Thurmond, Ed and James Pounds, Jimmy Williamson, Carl, Jimmy and Ronnie Cushman.
