Jennings Guthrie
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, March 13, 2012, Mrs. Mary Louise Jennings Guthrie, 94, wife of 56 years to the late Marion Gilbert Jennings, Sr. and wife of 14 years to the late Frank D. Guthrie, Sr.
Mrs. Guthrie was a native of Midville, GA but lived in Augusta most of her life. Mrs. Guthrie was the daughter to the late George Samuel Toole and the late Lucille Clark Toole. She was devoted and loved her God, family and friends. Mrs. Guthrie was a graduate of the Junior College of Augusta in 1937. She was the first secretary of T. Harry Garrett School for 16 years and loved the children and educators there. Mrs. Guthrie retired from the Richmond County Board of Education Central Office in 1980 and fondly recalled the many people that she encountered knew and loved there. She was a member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church and worked with the youth and children. Mrs. Guthrie loved gatherings with family and friends and always made everything special and fun! She had a quick wit, many smiles and was always encouraging. Mrs. Guthrie was a great cook and was known to often prepare “an extra plate” for someone in need. She was a true “Southern Belle”. She especially loved the ocean and was able to enjoy many vacations with family and friends. Mrs. Guthrie will truly be missed by all whose life she touched.
