Mary Louise Garrett Sprouse (Mary Lou) – Evans(GA) -
Our Mother Wore Garden Gloves
Our Mother wore garden gloves almost every day of her life as a Master Gardener. Her favorite place to be was in the yard planting, cultivating, and watching things grow. As a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Recreation Science, Mom used this degree professionally to become a long-time employee and Advisor for the CSRA Girl Scout Council. She also used this degree personally to become a swim instructor and a lifelong swimmer that would still, at the age of 83, dive head first into the water equipped with goggles and ear plugs. After retirement, she attended Augusta Technical School and began her second career as a computer science technician at the Augusta Metro Federal Credit Union where she later served as a Board Member.
Mom loved to entertain her family and friends and there were many. She loved deeply and played hard. Mom hosted many social events including civic organizations, Sunday school parties, book clubs and bridge games. She would serve her guests fresh cooked vegetables from her garden and homemade coconut cake. Her boisterous laugh filled a room with life and love.
Born on May 19, 1929, in Birmingham, Alabama, she began a life that was free-spirited and vibrant. Mom was down to earth and used her artistic talents to express her love of nature with oils and watercolors. The quilts and curtains that fill our homes are further expressions of her talents. She departed this life on August 24, 2012 unexpectedly but peacefully, ready to meet her Lord.
Celebrating her life with us now are her grandchildren, Chase and Lauryn Sprouse, Lily and Lloyd Rowe; daughter-in-law, Melanie Sprouse; sons-in-law, Clive Rowe and Al Autrey; brother, Henry Garrett, and his wife Ann Garrett; brother, Walton Garrett; and the many friends and family that loved her.
Mom, we give you to your loving husband, Frank Sprouse, and your daughter, Cyndi Sprouse Autrey. We love you… your children Clay Sprouse and Cara Sprouse Rowe.
