Mary Swint Robinson, age 100, beloved wife for 52 years of the late Ellyson Reid Robinson of Augusta Georgia, passed away Friday May 6, 2022, at Autumn Glen Assisted Living facility of Dartmouth, MA.
Born on Thursday August 18, 1921, in Burke County, Georgia, Mary was the daughter of the late Samuel David and Dessie Marie (Woodward) Swint of Glascock County and was raised by her Aunt and Uncle Leon and Fannie Lou (Johnson) Woodward of Emanuel County.
Mary was a class of 1942 graduate of the Barrett School of Nursing at the University Hospital in Augusta, GA, earning her degree as a Registered Nurse. Her greatest professional achievement was being selected as one of sixteen to establish the first intensive coronary unit in Northeast Georgia. Being told that region of the country had a higher rate of heart disease, she felt inspired to get involved in cardiology and caring for cardiac patients. Even up until her passing she maintained her compassion that all people deserved the best nursing and medical care.
Mary enjoyed working with plants, flowers and watching her ferns flourish. Her greatest joy was socializing with family and friends. A member of the Hill Baptist Church in Augusta, GA, Mary also attended Dartmouth Bible Church in Massachusetts. An avid reader, even at her age she continued to research and study the Scriptures. Mary was a lady of abiding faith in her God. Her faith sustained her in her life and in her eminent death. “I lived a good, happy and ripe old age”.
Mary is survived by her son Ellyson Reid Robinson, Jr. of Augusta, GA, daughter Martha Ann Edminster and her husband Ross of East Freetown, MA, grandsons Karl Reid Edminster and his wife Tina of Fairhaven, MA, and Travis Ross Edminster and his wife Kelley of Deer Park, IL, great grandchildren Elizabeth and James of Fairhaven, MA, and Callen and Matthew of Deer Park, IL. Mary was predeceased by her sister Alma Desmond, Juanita Skipper, Elsie Wade, and Woodie Swint.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Development Office Shriners’ Hospital for Children Boston, 51 Blossom Street Boston, MA 02114 or Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes, 505 Water Works Road, Palmetto, GA 30268.
