Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Friday, January 13, 2012, Mrs. Mattie Dixon Athearn, 89, wife of the late James H. Timmerman and Fred F. Athearn.
Mrs. Athearn was a native of Bullock County but lived in the Augusta area since 1930. She worked as a checker at Kroger Supermarket. She loved to play the game of golf at Green Meadows where she was a charter member. She enjoyed and won many tournaments. Mrs. Athearn was a member of the American Legion Post 63.
Family members include children: Tommy Timmerman (Jackie) Ernie Timmerman (Angie) brother: Jack Dixon, sister: Virgina Woodward, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Athearn was preceded in death by her daughter: Delores Synder, brother: Glinn Dixon, and sister: Wilma Murphy. The family would like to thank Joan Tritt, Heartland and Alliance Hospice for all their love and care.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 12:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Phillip Burdette officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Randy, Ricky and Rodney Woodward, Lamar Dixon, Harold Todd, Joe Wright.
