Maurice “Marty” Charnock
Augusta, GA – Mr. Maurice “Marty” Charnock entered into rest Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
He was a native of Trenton, NJ; attended Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA; retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service in the Military Police Corps. He served in Europe and Korea. During his 20 year service as a Military Policeman he successfully complete all enlisted and NCO Courses, all junior grade and staff officer courses of the non-resident extension curriculum. was office manager for the J.B. White Stores and Purchasing Manager for Augusta Mill Supply Company. His past and present memberships included the American Legion, Lions Club, NAUSA and had a lifetime Chapter Membership of The Augusta Richmond County Museum. He was a resident of Parksvile, SC before moving to Augusta in 1987.
Mr. Charnock enjoyed traveling, playing golf, particularly Goshen Golf Club, bowling, reading, music, gardening and Elderhostel Programs.
In addition to being an Usher, he did mission and volunteer work for his church; supported Augusta Urban Ministries by reconditioning bicycles and served at the Masters Table.
Survivors include his wife: Doris H. Charnock; daughters: Victoria L. Moore (Doug) of North Augusta, Robin A. Petry (Mark) of Augusta, and Tracy L. Perdue of Belvedere; sons: Richard D. Charnock of Belvedere and Scott L. Charnock of Bath, SC; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Charnock was preceded in death by his parents as well as his first wife: Ruby Carlene Charnock and son: Roger A. Charnock.
A funeral service will be Saturday, March 29, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Higgins officiating. Following the service, a reception will be in the fellowship hall, burial will follow in Pineview Memorial Park, North Augusta, SC, with U.S. Army Military Honors. Honorary pallbearers will be J.B. White Retirees.
The family wishes to thank all bowlers of Northside Lanes and Brunswick National Lanes, the golfers at Goshen, and retirees of J.B. Whites, for their many hours of fun and friendship they gave him. Also, thank you to the staff and doctors of the fourth floor at University Heart and Vascular Institute. A special thanks to Doctors Hudson, Boone, Lane, Brannon and Limbaugh for the loving care they gave him.
