Max Donald Miller
Max Donald Miller, 77, husband of Melva Lee Miller passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on December 11, 2017 after a long illness. Dr. Miller was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on June 28, 1940. He attended high school in Beaumont Texas and was a graduate of Lamar Institute of Technology, The University of Houston, and Augusta College.
Dr. Miller had a long and distinguished career as a Professor in the School of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia with appointments in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine as well as the Dean’s Office. He also served as President of the Faculty Senate at the Medical College.
Dr. Miller also served as President of the Board of Directors of the Senior Citizens Council, Commodore of the Augusta Sailing Club, and Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America. He was an enthusiastic golfer with the Forrest Hills and Bartram Trail Senior Golf Clubs. He was an avid reader and an amateur genealogist being a member of the Augusta Genealogical Society. Dr. Miller was also a lay teacher in the United Methodist church where he taught Sunday School at both Woodlawn and Trinity on the Hill United Methodist church.
He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a friend to all. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Marc Miller (Linda) of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, his daughters Mica French of Ithaca, New York, and Marci Miller (Andrew Symms) of Augusta. In addition, he is survived by nine grandchildren; Alec Miller, Nancy Miller, James Sanders, Wesley Sanders, Joshua Sanders, William Sanders, Anslee Cannon, Preston Cannon, and Harrison Cannon. In addition, he is survived by sisters, Iva Jean Jorgenson and Susie Ross and brothers Bob Miller (Carolyn) and David Miller (Ann).
A service will be held in the Chapel of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church gathering area.
