Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Meg Whitfield, 67, was born in Munich, Germany. She was the oldest of 10 children born to John and Margaret Regan. Being the firstborn of such a large family, she embraced being the eldest by lovingly nurturing and caring for her younger siblings. A graduate of Westside High School, Meg attended Catholic University in Washington D.C. prior to moving back to Augusta and graduating with a B.S. and Master’s in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia.
In the trauma unit at MCG, Meg began what would become treasured lifelong friendships with many of her nursing peers. Spanning her 40-year career of dedicated healthcare in Augusta, Meg served in numerous nursing capacities including critical care, nurse educator, hospice, and case management, becoming a certified Nurse Practitioner. Meg was compassionate, caring, and conscientious, always willing to help others.
Meg was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, and an adoring aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Her gentle spirit was evident to all. She was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and the Irish-American Heritage Society.
She is survived by her loving husband Timothy Whitfield and her daughter Elizabeth Whitfield; her mother Margaret Regan; sisters Annmarie Noegel (Russell), Jennifer Baker (Victor), Jessica Bell (Griffin); brothers John Regan (Lois), James Regan (Sandra), Michael Regan, Patrick Regan (Nicole), and Timothy Regan (Lisa); sisters-in-law Anne and Janice Whitfield; a large and loving group of cousins, as well as twenty-four nieces and nephews and three great nieces and nephews.
Those who have gone before her and
await a joyous reunion are her cherished son, Matthew Whitfield; sister Marybeth
Regan; father LTC (Ret.) John Regan, Sr., sister-in-law Susan Whitfield Pitchford,
brother-in-law Harold Pitchford, and brother-in-law Frank Whitfield.
A memorial Mass will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Ross as celebrant. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
