Entered into rest on Sunday, November 28, 2021, Melvin Barton, 79, husband of the late Dianne S. Barton.
Melvin grew up in the family businesses of Barton Wrecking, Surplus & Salvage, House Moving, & Barton Building Supply. He established the foundation of today's Barton & Barton Contracting which is carried on by his sons. Hard work was his standard.
Melvin’s heart was for the Lord and he committed his physical efforts & visions along with family and others of our community to build Curtis Baptist School and further the growth of the Church and its members' faith. He taught Sunday School & discipleship classes, while serving on the school board and as a deacon. Melvin enjoyed fishing, painting, and drawing in his spare time.
Family members include his four children: Camille Barton (Johnny), Douglas Barton, Jr. (Tracey), Gregory Barton, Sr. (Tanna), Benjamin Barton (Kim), one granddaughter, and seven grandsons.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents: Leon T. Barton, Sr. and Myrtis Mae Washington Barton; granddaughter: Erin Lynn Barton; sister: Joyce Barton Toole and brothers: Leon Barton, Jr. and William F. Barton, Sr.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with his lifelong friend, Rev. Berry Wren officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Lincolnton Cemetery.
