Augusta, GA – Entered into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, August 7, 2023, Melvin Ernest “Spike” Nichols, Jr., 72, loving husband of Karleen Steed Nichols. Spike was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on October 16, son of Melvin E. Nichols, Sr. and Margaret Moss Nichols (both deceased).

Spike retired from the Office of Building Inspectors with the Richmond County Consolidated Government. Spike loved the Lord, his family, his church and church family. His mission was to lead others to Christ and loved sharing the plan of salvation with the lost. He worked with the Singles’ Ministry, a member of the Adult Choir and Weekly Men’s Bible Study. He loved singing and Christian music.

Family members in addition to his wife include his children: Michelle Nichols Keilholtz (Mark), Julie Nichols Buird, Stephen Thomas Salley (Candace), and Tara Salley Hasty (Jeff); grandchildren: Olivia Taylor Buird, Ashley Hasty Tierney (Ashton), Bradley Taylor Hasty (Abby), Carley Jaden Hasty, Madalyn Keilholtz Peavler (Matt), Margaret Mae Keilholtz (Kyle Yarbrough), Madison Maynard (Cody), and Savannah Kaitlyn Harris; great-grandchildren: Milo Wall, Kellin Maynard, Charlie Stagner, Joanna Harris, and Boeing Tierney; siblings: William “Bill” Nichols and Sally Nichols Shuford (Rick). He is predeceased by his grandson, Kevin Blake Wall.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Curtis Baptist Church, 1348 Broad Street, Augusta, GA 30901. Visitation will be one hour prior. Dr. Mark Sterling and Dr. John Bryan will be officiating the Memorial Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Curtis Baptist Church or Curtis Baptist School. Contributions may be made online at https://curtisbc.org/give/ or by mail to 1348 Broad Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
