Merribeth Stratton

Appling, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, December 30, 2022, Mrs. Merribeth Adams Stratton, 75, loving wife of the late William Stanley Stratton.

Merribeth was a resident of Appling, Georgia, who gave her children their sense of adventure, seeking out historical and visual wonders across the United States.
She was a paraprofessional for 20+ years at North Columbia Elementary in Appling, Ga. Where even after her retirement, her influence is widely felt. Merribeth (A.K.A. Dr. Stratton) loved each child as if they were her own, making costumes for reading adventures, healing cuts and mending their bruised hearts.

On an almost daily occurrence you could find her in the yard, tending to her many Camelias, Roses, Lilys and Azaleas or inside watering her 50+ Orchids.
Merribeth loved music, from Elvis’ rock and roll, & Willie Nelson’s country, classical music and gospel hymns. She’d hum along to it all (and sometimes sing a line or two for you). She loved working her mind; reading, working crosswords, doing jigsaw puzzles and quilting.

Merribeth would lend you an ear if needed, no matter the time of day, she was always there for her family and friends. A Methodist by faith, Merribeth made sure her children knew what God’s love was and to show that love towards others in their daily trials and triumphs.

Merribeth was no stranger to a kitchen, she prepared cakes, desserts, and fried chicken for many relatives (and children’s) weddings, graduation and birthday parties, nobody could top her homemade goodies!! A seamstress to the stars (in her young son’s eyes that was) Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and their sidekicks’ costumes were created by hand and used by the Augusta Mall. She had a true talent for decoration and creation.

Family members include her children: Bryan Stratton (Amy) and Michelle Stratton McConnel; stepdaughter: Janet Stratton Sanders (Jeff); grandchildren: Will McConnel, Noah McConnel, Jennifer Stratton, Dalton Hurst, Ashley Merriman, Amy Watts, Garrett Sanders, Dustin Merriman, Ashley Stewart, and Tanya Smith; great grandchildren: Alexis, Journee, Sterling, Laniakea, Leilani, and Avery; and sisters: Ellen Hunt (Corey) and Annette Bush. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her stepchildren: Dennis Stratton, Gary Stratton, David Stratton, and Dianna Freeman; and grandson: Travis Stratton.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at White Oak United Methodist Church Campground, 7300 White Oak Campground Rd, Appling, Ga 30802, with Rev.
