MICHAEL J. ARMSTRONG
Augusta, GA - Michael James Armstrong entered into rest on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
A native of Augusta, GA, he was the son of Joseph A. and Bernice Kirsch Armstrong. He graduated from the University of Georgia where he earned a bachelor's degree in history. Michael retired from the State, but the job he loved was 25 years with CBS during the Masters Golf Tournament.
He was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, the Irish American Heritage Society, the Augusta Country Club, the Burton Group at the ACC, and the Augusta Bulldog Club. He was an avid DAWG fan. Michael loved being on the golf course. He belonged to the Greater Augusta Invitational Open (GAIO), a group of 12 longtime friends who traveled each summer to a different destination. They have competed for the past 44 years, and Michael was Champion three times and 12-time runner up.
Family members include his daughter, Margaret Ann Armstrong MacGregor (Robert); siblings Claire Armstrong, Gerald A. Armstrong (Tonya), Patricia A. Nichols (Jim), a grandson, William MacGregor and several nieces and nephews. He's also survived by his longtime friend, Rose Anne Moore.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and the vigil will be held Thursday evening at 5:30 P.M. with visitation following until 7:00 P.M. also at St. Mary's.
