Michael R. Jarrett
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, June 12, 2023, Mr. Michael R. Jarrett, 72, loving husband of 41 years to Diane Jarrett. He is survived by his son: Stephen H. Jarrett (spouse: Carina Alberelli); grandson: Mateo Jarrett; sister: Joanne Paulos; and brothers: Larisey Jarrett (spouse: Anne) and Joseph Zale (fiancée: Patricia). At life’s end he was grateful for the support and friendship of Elaine and Francine. He was preceded in passing by his parents: Dot and Larisey; three brothers: Bobby, Jerry, and Chris; and his cherished dog, Lady.
Michael was born in Lafayette, Indiana, but spent most of his life living in Augusta, Georgia. He attended Aquinas High School and enlisted in the US Army. Michael served eight years in the US Army, including one tour in the Vietnam War with the 25th Infantry. He was awarded three bronze stars (heroic achievement in a combat zone) for his service.
Returning from Vietnam, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Augusta College. He retired from Georgia Regional Hospital. The job he excelled at the most was being a father and husband. He was always present, loving, and supportive. He taught and lived kindness, curiosity, and determination.
Michael was the type of person to run towards a fire instead of away from it, literally. He had an easy smile and a quick joke or silly voice for every situation. For most of his life, it was hard to find him without a book in his hands or later on listening to an audiobook. He watched almost any horror movie ever made, even the bad ones. Michael was a master chess player and enjoyed teaching others how to play. He was a passionate supporter of the Georgia Bulldawgs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Manchester United.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son, 214 Davis Road Augusta, GA 30907. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 1:00 P.M. Following the reception, burial services will be held at Westover Memorial Park at 4:00 PM. Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you (Let somebody love you)
You better let somebody love you before it's too late
