Maggie Valley, NC – Entered into rest Saturday, March 22, 2013, Mr. Michael Joseph Howell, 50, son of the late Larry Howell and Margaret Ann Hans Clifford.

Michael was a longtime resident of Augusta, but he most recently lived in Maggie Valley, NC. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, Grady College of Journalism. He was a former sports editor for the Columbia County News Times. Michael enjoyed golf and hiking, making smoking pipes and hunting for arrowheads. He was a loving father of two.

Family members include daughters: Sierra Howell of Martinez and Crystal Howell of Maggie Valley, NC; aunt: Brenda Ennis of Evans; cousins: Melissa Ennis, Larry Ennis (Michelle), Joseph Ennis (Karina), Allen Rogers (April) and Amy Claus (Peter); great aunt: Betty Chalker (Billy); and numerous other family members. In addition to his parent Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Wilbert and Mildred Hans and paternal grandparents: Joseph and Kay Howell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor David Hunter officiating.
