Michael Springer

Michael Jonathon Springer passed away peacefully the morning of September 22, 2023, at the age of 61.

Mike was born in November of 1961 in Tampa, Florida. After graduating from Brandon High School in 1979, Mike enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the final years of the Cold War. During his service, Mike discovered a knack for repairing Navy communication equipment, which would spur him to pursue electrical engineering at University of South Florida upon discharge, and later Johns Hopkins University for his Master’s in Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. His career led him to work as a systems engineer for various defense contractors, most notably Boeing Defense and Lockheed-Martin, which eventually led him to his dream of working in cyber security at the United States’ National Security Agency, where he would then retire in 2019. Mike was very fond of traveling, and visited several countries, notably England, Germany and Turkey, through work trips and family reunions. During these trips, he would always be able to bring back stories and was always on the search for souvenirs to bring home to entertain his wife and kids. When he wasn’t exploring the world, Mike’s technical curiosity led him to his garage, where he tinkered on various gizmos and several technical projects (which could be found in various states of completion), as well as making crafts that he would give to his friends and family. Mike was also an avid reader, and his interest in sci-fi and fantasy novels and movies spurred him to practice writing his own works and screenplays in his spare time.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Carole Tedder; their four beautiful children, Hayley (Jarrett Grizzaffi), Jacob, Chase, and Cassie; his brothers, Kenneth and David; his sisters, Kathy Tilson and Michelle Llana; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph; mother, Doris Riggs; and brothers, Ralph Jr. and James.

In remembrance of Mike, the Springer family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
