Michael Via

Michael Allen Via, 66, of Augusta Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning, August 11th, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Mike was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, but spent most of his life in Augusta. He was a graduate of Hephzibah Highschool, where he met his bride of 48 years, Rebecca Dorn Via. From the time he was a young teen, Mike has held a job. Mike was known by all for his strong work ethic, discipline and love for his family. He had a love for the outdoors and nothing pleased him more than sharing this with his grandchildren. Whether hunting, fishing, or just doing yard work with them, he was all about making memories. Mike's greatest passion is his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ. He never missed an opportunity to share the gospel and encourage others through his personal testimony. Whether in the workplace, at a restaurant or even in his weakest moments receiving treatments, you would find him witnessing and passing out his favorite tract "What Cancer Cannot Do." After over a 30 year battle, and more than 100 surgeries, he has never allowed cancer to rob him of one ounce of life's joy.

In addition to his wife Rebecca, Mike is survived by his son and daughter in law, Timothy Michael Via (Robin); his daughters Elizabeth Via Corbitt (Sanford); Leah Via Herzwurm (Brant); grandsons Caleb Sanford Corbitt, Jackson Brent Corbitt, Hunter James Via, Michael Elliott Corbitt, Graham Michael Herzwurm; granddaughters, Hailey Ann Via and Baby Girl Herzwurm due in January 2024; a brother, Evan Jennings Via of Maryland, and many other nieces, nephews, sister-and brother-in-laws. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Allen Via and Elsie Marie Via, father and mother-in-law, James and Virginia Dorn; and brother, David Edmond Via.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, August 13th, 2023 from 2-4 pm at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Road. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 14th, 2023 at 11 am at Believers Gospel Chapel, 3565 Peach Orchard Rd. The interment will be held at Hephzibah-Vance Memorial Cemetery, Windsor Spring Road, Hephzibah, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Tim Via, Hunter Via, Sanford Corbitt, Caleb Corbitt, Jackson Corbitt, Elliott Corbitt, Brant Herzwurm and Luke Ishee. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Raborn, Steve Zielinski, Rick Crews, Douglas Frederick, Jeremy Brown, Dr. Ted Oellerich and Scott Gunter.
