Mildred (Midge) Grice Keel, 90, died on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at National Health Care after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

A native of Bath, SC, Mrs. Keel was the daughter of the late Henry Benjamin Grice and Carrie Lee Cartledge Grice. She was the valedictorian of the Langley-Bath High School class of 1938. She lived in Augusta since 1941, until moving to North Augusta in 2007. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Augusta, Winsome Bible Class, and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She retired as a medical assistant in 1994 after working for Dr. Daniel B. Sullivan for 30 1/2 years. She was an avid cross-stitcher and loved working with children, serving as 4-year-old Sunday School teacher for 32 years.

She will be remembered by those who knew and loved her as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who devoted her life to the service of others. She will be missed for her witty sense of humor, her unwavering dedication to family, and her steadfast faith.

Mrs. Keel was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lester LeRoy Keel, and sister, Carolyn G. Coram. She is survived by three sons, J. Grice Keel (Gayle) of Belvedere, SC, David L. Keel (Nancy) of Augusta, GA, and Dr. Brooks A. Keel (Tammie) of Statesboro, GA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris G. Bateman of Lewisville, TX.

Mrs. Keel’s family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 27, from 5 - 7 pm at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 28, at 10 am in the chapel of First Baptist Church Augusta. Dr. Rodger Murchison and Dr. Jacob Malone will officiate the service, and pall bearers will be David Crews, Mike Frits, Rev. Andy Jones, Russell Owen, David Smith, and Tim Woodall. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta.

In leiu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to The Alzheimers Association 1899 Central Ave Augusta, GA 30904 or to First Baptist Church of Augusta PO Box 14489 Augusta, GA 30919.
