Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, September 27, 2015, Mrs. Mildred Louise Davidson Sparks, 89, widow of Retired Master Sergeant Burnice Edward Sparks, Sr.
Mrs. Sparks was born November 1, 1925. She was a 1943 graduate of Tubman High School. Mrs. Sparks was married March 9, 1946 and until the birth of her first child she worked for Georgia Power. She was a dedicated military wife following his service to Salzburg, Austria, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Ft. Richardson, Alaska, Fort Ord California, then returned home to Augusta, Georgia after his retirement. Mrs. Sparks devoted the rest of her life to being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved gameshows, crosswords and word jumbles. Mrs. Sparks in her later years enjoyed going out to eat. She enjoyed talking on the telephone; since she never drove it was her only connection to the outside world. Mrs. Sparks had fond memories of Sunday and Holiday Dinners. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as Granny, Granmillie, Grandma Millie, Grandma, Nanny, Manny and Tinny.
Family members include her children: Burnice Edward Sparks, Jr. (Cheri) of Hillsborough, CA, Debra Sparks Van Horn (Tony) of Martinez, Linda Sparks Stanley (Richie) of Powhatan, VA, John Emory Sparks (Julie) of North Augusta and Dwayne Patrick Sparks (Mandy) of Augusta; grandchildren: Angela Van Horn Tyler (Rod) of Summerville, SC, Tara Stanley Zinna (Michael) of Madison, NJ, Kellie Van Horn McMichael (John) of Augusta, Kimberly Van Horn Hodges (Lonnie) of Olney, MD, Adam Scott Van Horn (Charity) of Simpsonville, SC, Jason Daniel Stewart (Stephanie) of North Augusta, Taylor Sparks Rosario (Joel) of Goose Creek, SC, Stacy Victoria Sparks of Portland, OR, Bailie Heos Sparks of Charleston, SC, Christopher James Sparks of Hillsborough, CA and Madeline Claire Sparks of Augusta; great grandchildren: Aaron Royce Tyler, Reagan Elizabeth Hodges, Michael Ronald Tyler, Brayden Scott Van Horn, Ava Noelle Zinna, Peyton William Hodges, Leslie Ann McMichael, Olivia Nolan Van Horn, Eden Faith Van Horn, Isaac Wesley McMichael and Mildred Lydia Rosario. Additional survivors include; sister-in-law: Betty Patrick Davidson of Martinez; brother-in-law: James Gordon Sparks of Appling, GA; six nieces; and multiple great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents: John B. Davidson, Sr. and Magdalena Lotz Davidson; her brother: John B. Davidson, Jr. and sisters: Lois Davidson Bouchea, Margaret Adele Davidson Morris and Barbara Davidson Kemmerlin Tuggle.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Pallbearers will be Richie Stanley, Rod Tyler, Aaron Tyler, Lonnie Hodges, John McMichael and Adam Van Horn.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at
