Mr. James G. "Jamie" Thompson
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. James (Jamie) Gerald Thompson, 38, beloved son of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Thompson, died on February 18, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital.
A celebration of life will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3185 Wheeler Rd., Augusta, GA on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 12 Noon with Reverend John Pinson officiating. The pallbearers will be Mr. Earl Smith, Mr. Thomas E. Smith, Mr. David Thompson, Mr. William D. Wansley, Mr. Travis Smith and Mr. Nicholas Mullinax. The interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, GA. The family will receive friends in the church narthex from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon prior to the service.
Family members in addition to his parents include his sister: Ellen Smith, husband Travis, Marietta, GA; nieces: Elise Smith and Gabrielle Smith, Marietta, GA; uncles and aunts: Gail Mullinax, Anderson, SC; William D. and Stevi Wansley, Thomson, GA; David and Linda Thompson, Anderson, SC; Thomas E. and Grace Smith, Shelby, NC; Earl and Rose Smith, Pauline, SC; numerous cousins and other relatives, all of whom he loved. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William ("T") Wansley, formerly of Washington, GA and Mr. and Mrs. Wade H. Thompson of Anderson, SC, deceased.
Born in Anderson SC in 1970, Jamie spent most of his life in Augusta, GA. He graduated from the Georgia Academy for the Blind in Macon, GA in 1990. Following that he attended Lynndale, Inc. until his recent illness.
Jamie loved music of all types and especially loved playing his keyboard, which he was gifted with the ability to "play by ear". He also enjoyed swinging, camping and visiting with family and friends.
The family would like to express thanks to those individuals at Lynndale who have provided so much service, advocacy, and support to Jamie over the years. We would like to express appreciation to everyone at Aldersgate for their support during Jamie's recent hospitalization as well as continued prayers for Jamie and our family during his life. We would also like to thank everyone involved with the "Special Followers" Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Augusta for providing the opportunity for Jamie to worship there and for all the special visits over the years.
