AUGUSTA, Ga. – Entered into rest on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, Mr. James L. “Rip” Hamilton, 93, husband of June A. Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton was born in Andrews, NC and resided in Augusta. He was a retired Major with the US Army for 25 years and was a K-Mart detective and security officer. He was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church. Mr. Hamilton was the Master of Richmond Lodge # 412 F & AM from 1959 until 1963, and was secretary for 35 years, member of the Scottish Rite Consistory, 33rd degree, Alee Temple Shrine, the Legion of Honor, a 1975 commander of the VFW, a member of the American Legion, Masonic Service Association and was an active Mason for 50 years.

Family members in addition to his wife include his two daughters: Carol Miller and husband Paul of Fountain Inn, SC, Lynn Hamilton Parrish and husband Mel of Grovetown; one son: Piney Hamilton of Augusta; and two grandsons: Robert Hopkins, Jr. and Benjamin Parrish.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in Valleytown Cemetery, Andrews, NC on Saturday, September 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Jimmy Watkins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond Lodge #412 Building Fund, 115 Salem Dr. Bonair GA 31005.
