Mrs. Dorothy Greene Britton

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Dorothy Greene Britton, 85, died March 17, 2009 at University Hospital.

Mrs. Britton is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Greene of Temple, Texas, and had resided in Augusta the past 64 years. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the Augusta Women’s Club, Palmetto Bridge Club and was very active for many years in the Parent Teachers Association. She had worked as a medical and legal stenographer.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, William L. Britton; Bonnie Zier and husband Kelly of North Augusta, Mary Elizabeth Schaber and husband John of Augusta, William L. Britton III and wife Nora of Augusta. Dottie had seven grandchildren: Jennifer Zier of Greenville, SC, Britton Zier of North Augusta, Patrick Zier of North Augusta, Chris Britton, Joel Britton, Sarah Britton, Chad Schaber, all of Augusta; great granddaughter: Britteny Britton; sister: Marie Derrough of Corpus Christi, Texas and sister-in-law: Marilyn Towill, Augusta. Dottie will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She was happiest when she was with her family. She loved to cook, sew and decorate her home. She had many friends and she treasured all of them. Dottie and Bill loved cats and have given many stray pets a loving home.

Visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2009 from 3:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. A Memorial service will be held Friday, at 4:00 P.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Reverends John Pinson and John Kinney officiating. A private burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.
