JASPER, GA. – Entered into rest Friday, February 26, 2010, in Jasper, GA.,
Mrs. Gladys Saxon Chafin, 89, wife of the late Mr. Harold Chafin, daughter of the late Bennie R. and Eleanor Etheleen Saxon.

Mrs. Chafin was born in Elbert County and moved to Augusta shortly after her marriage in the late 1930’s. She worked at Borden’s and Lily Tulip during the 40’s. She loved children and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Mrs. Chafin retired from the Richmond County Board of Education having served as lunch room manager for 18 years at A. Brian Merry School. She also prepared Wednesday Night Suppers at Trinity-on-the-Hill Methodist Church for several years and was later a member of their seniors group.

Family members include her daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Fritz Wanner of Jasper, GA.; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws since she and Harold both came from families of twelve children. Special thanks to the caregivers at The Plaza at St. John Towers for their kindness while she lived there.

A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
