Mrs. Ruth Lillian Bartlett
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ruth Lillian Bartlett, beloved wife of Dr. John B. Bartlett entered her eternal rest on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 at the University Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Bartlett was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Pierce Sniffen. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and by her brother, The Rev. Kenneth Sniffen, former President of the America Baptist Association of New York State.
Mrs. Bartlett leaves her beloved husband of over fifty years, two daughters and their families. Cynthia Edwards and her husband Dr. Richard Milton Edwards and son Aaron, of Oostburg, Wisconsin, and daughter Jennifer Gregory and children, Christopher and Jennifer Gregory of Merryville, Tennessee.
Mrs. Bartlett graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina where she received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in vocal performance. Her lengthy career included teaching on the faculties of Bob Jones University, Malone College, and a long tenure with Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. She did further graduate study with such renowned artists as Donna Pegors at the Kent State University, and the famous Metropolitan Opera contralto, Doris Doe. She was well known as an oratorio soloist appearing with the Akron/Canton Symphony and the Chattanooga Symphony. She remained active in major professional musical organizations throughout her career. During her tenure at Bob Jones University, Mrs. Bartlett was the daily soloist for Dr. Bob Jones Sr. on his morning devotional radio program
Mrs. Bartlett was an active member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, and the Damren Sunday School Class.
The funeral will be held at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church on Friday, February 27 at 1:00 conducted by Senior minister Rev. Dan Brown. Pallbearers will be Cary Rivers, Dr. William Wright, E. Warren Jones, Dr. Floyd O’Neal, Edward Brown.
Ruth Bartlett was a model of charm, beauty and Christian grace and will be missed by her adoring family and scores of loving friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ruth Bartlett Memorial Fund at Augusta Christian Schools, 313 Baston Road, Martinez, 30907.
