Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at her residence, Myra Smith, 89, wife of the late Robert H. Smith, Sr. was born to Otis W. Belding and Annie Davis Belding of North Augusta, SC. After her marriage she made her home in Augusta, Georgia. Mrs. Smith was a woman of service. She worked as a nursing assistant at St. Joseph's Hospital for thirty years and volunteered in the gift shop after retirement. Mrs. Smith taught Sunday School at Maranatha Christian Fellowship, where she touched many little lives with her wisdom and love for Jesus. Her love for life and her family was present in every aspect of her life. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice for their love and care.
Family members include: daughter: Barbara Smith Newby (Ray); sons: Charles H. Smith (Debbie) of the Villages, FL; Robert H. Smith, Jr. (Cindy); sister: Ann Belding Robins of North Augusta, SC; preceded in death by her brothers: Otis William Belding and Talmadge Davis Belding. Grandchildren: Ray H. Newby, Holly Newby Fox (Chris), Kerri Smith Hodnick (Michael), Charlie Smith and Michael O'Rourke of Florida, Ashley Joan Cox (Bradley), and Elizabeth Kay Smith. Great-grandchildren: Christian Davis Fox, Anna Grace Fox, Austin Daniel Fox, Andrew Hodnick, Jackson Hodnick, Kate Hodnick, Logan Cooper Cox, Mackenzie Cox, Haley Smith, and Caleb Smith. Pallbearers will be Micheal Hodnick, Chris A. Fox, Walt Harper, Belding Robins, Andrew Hodnick, Ray H. Newby, Roy Strickland, Michael O’Rourke and William O. Belding, Jr.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests, those desiring, please make contributions to St. Joseph's Foundation; Trinity Hospice; P.O. Box 31358, Augusta, GA 30903.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 12:00 noon at West Acres Baptist Church, Evans, Georgia with Rev. Larry Harmon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
