Mrs. Nancy Leslie Peters Foss, age 78, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 23, 2023 in her hometown of Augusta, GA.
Mrs. Foss was a retired educator from the Richmond County Board of Education where she taught history at Tubman Middle School and Glenn Hills Middle School. Her love of teaching was illustrated when she was voted Teacher of the Year in 2002 by her peers. She served as President of the Board of Directors for the former Richmond County Teacher's Credit Union for 20 years. She was also active on the Advisory Board for the Peach State Credit Union and the Executive Board for the Richmond County Retired Educators Association. Mrs. Foss was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, Augusta College (BA), and Troy State University (MEd).
Mrs. Foss enjoyed reading, playing bridge, watching movies and mysteries, spending summers at the beach with her daughter and "grands," and the special times shared with her son. Her "lunch bunch" gatherings of old college friends were the highlight of every month, along with the fellowship and love shared by her close teacher friends. She was loved by family, friends and colleagues for her gratitude, dedication, and witty sense of humor. Mrs. Foss was an inspiration to her former students, with many remarking "she made learning fun."
Surviving family members include her son Russell Foss and daughter Joi Foss Vogin; grandchildren Noa Vogin and Sam Vogin; nephews Larry Thomas Jr. and Mark Williams; canine companion Little Boy, Jr., and many other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Mavoureen (Page) and Albert Peters; her sister Joan Peters Williams; and her longtime canine companion Little Boy Sr. To honor her memory, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare 199 Willow Run Rd. Aiken, SC 29801.
