Nancy Jo Heberer
Augusta, GA- Nancy Jo Heberer, 91, wife of Norman L. Heberer passed away at their home in Augusta, GA on May 9, 2013. She was born January 29, 1922 in Hamilton, OH the daughter of Margaret and Robert Spoerl.
She was devoted to her family and friends and is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, daughters: Linda (Wes) York of Appling, GA and Patti (Dana) McWhirter of Evans, GA; grandsons: Joseph (Isabell) York of Atlanta, GA and David (Joy) McWhirter of Canton, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Margaret and Robert E. Spoerl; sister: Jean Beer and brother: John R. Spoerl all of Hamilton, OH.
She attended Miami University of Ohio and was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority. Mrs. Heberer was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and served as a yeoman at 6th District Naval Headquarters in New Orleans for most of her service. She met her husband at a tea dance on Christmas afternoon of 1944 in New Orleans and they married in October 1945.
Mrs. Heberer and her family are long time residents of Augusta. She was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. She served as a volunteer for both Meals on Wheels and as a pink lady at University Hospital.
Mrs. Heberer and her family lived in Brazil for several years during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s and she loved to travel. She and her husband visited more than 50 different countries, islands, and territories around the world. Mrs. Heberer also enjoyed playing golf and bridge and was a member of West Lake Country Club and the West Lake Lady Lakers.
Her family and friends will long remember her unique sense of humor and her joy for life.
The family wishes to thank sisters Henrietta Ramsey and Annie Major for the loving and compassionate care of Nancy during the past almost 2 years. In addition, they want to thank the personnel involved from Trinity Hospice for their caring assistance during her final days.
Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements for cremation. Visitation will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 followed by memorial services in the Chapel with Dr. G. Daniel McCall officiating. Interment of her ashes at Westover Memorial Park will be private.
