Mrs. Naomi Lorraine Stover Monge, 93, entered into rest on Monday, August 8, 2016 at her home in Augusta, GA. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, F. William. Mrs. Monge is survived by her two sons: Peter Monge and wife, Cathie, of Rockville, MD, and Richard Monge and his wife, Annamarie, of Glastonbury, CT; grandchildren: Brian and Carrie Feltman of Statesboro, GA,; Richard and Tara Monge of Marlborough, CT; Lauren and Kurtis Holzshu of Anderson, SC; Allison and Chad Calkins of Nottingham, MD; and John and Kimberly Wayne of Morristown, NJ; great-grandchildren: Naomi and Maxine Feltman, Drew and William Holzshu, Teagan Monge and Reagan Wayne.

Mrs. Monge was born in Altoona, PA, on July 9, 1923 and lived in Queens, NY, before moving to northern New Jersey. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rutherford, NJ, at age 13 and graduated Lyndhurst High School in 1941. She attended Wagner College in Staten Island, NY and joined the Cadet Nurse Corps during the Second World War. Mrs. Monge married Sergeant F. William Monge on June 24, 1944 and was a member of the Wagner College School of Nursing’s inaugural graduating class in 1946. After graduation, she relocated to Haiti and worked as a public health nurse upon her return to Staten Island. Mrs. Monge also lived in Los Altos, CA and Blacksburg, VA. In Blacksburg, she volunteered as an American Red Cross instructor and Blood Mobile Coordinator. She moved to Glastonbury, CT in 1966 and served as both instructor and academic dean in Hartford Hospital LPN program. In 1980, Mrs. Monge retired to Augusta, GA and became an active member of the community. She volunteered with St. Joseph’s Hospice, The Georgia Radio Reader Service, The Friedman Branch Library, and Walton Rehabilitation Hospital. At Walton, she worked as a therapy aide and made pillows for patients with traumatic brain injuries. Mrs. Monge was a faithful member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, where she served on the Alter Guild, for 35 years.

A funeral service will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor David B. Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearer will be Don Law.

In lieu of flowers, the Monge family request that memorials be made to the Bill Monge Horticulture Center at the Walton Foundation for Independence, PO Box 2223, Augusta, GA, 30903, or the Augusta University Scholarship Fund, 1120 15th Street, Augusta, GA, 30912.
