AUGUSTA, GA – Mrs. Nelle Ruth Guill Hogan, 78, beloved wife of Harvie J. Hogan, Jr. for 57 years, entered into rest on August 17, 2011.

Mrs. Hogan was born August 6, 1933 in Augusta, GA to the late Estelle and Carson Guill. Her sister, Betty Walls, and brother, J.C. Guill, also predeceased her. She is a graduate of the 1950, last all-girl, class of Tubman High School. She has made her home in Augusta for all but two years of her life. She devoted many years to raising her daughters and playing a role in activities enriching their lives. She is a former Girl Scout Leader and is a Life Member of the Georgia PTA. She retired from the Richmond County Board of Education, where she had been honored as the Georgia Educational Secretary of the Year (1983-84). Since retiring, Mrs. Hogan maintained her professional membership in various local and state educational associations. She volunteered for the Augusta Museum of History, Historic Augusta and H2U Doctors Hospital. She was a member of the Friends of Augusta Library and the Augusta Genealogy Society. For the past 50 years, she has been an active member of Pierce United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities including Lay Leader. She enjoyed reading, traveling, volunteering and Jeopardy. She was a treasured wife, mother and grandmother, a loyal friend, and faithful servant.

In addition to her loving husband, Harvie Hogan, Jr., survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Hogan Brady (Chris) of Alexandria, VA and Laurie Hogan Osteen (Chris) of Savannah, Georgia. She is survived by grandchildren: Katie Osteen (Tel Aviv, Israel), Nick Brady (Nags Head, NC), Sally Osteen (Atlanta, GA), Kathleen Brady (Alexandria, VA) and numerous nieces and nephews. Other family members surviving her include Marian Guill, as well as Willy and Mary Lou Hogan.

The family will receive family and friends at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors at 214 Davis Road on Friday, August 19, 2011 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Pierce United Methodist Church with the Reverend Susan Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be fellow members of the Hope Sunday School Class.

The family requests that memorial contributions in Nelle’s honor be made to Pierce United Methodist Church, 1441 Jackson Road, Augusta, GA 30909.
