Augusta, GA – Norma Jean Quick Bishop, 82, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, world’s greatest aunt, and friend to many, entered peacefully into rest at her daughter’s home on June 14, 2024.
Jean was born on February 23, 1942, in the town of Midville, Georgia to a wonderful family who grew to cherish Jean as she was the youngest of eight. She was a lifelong resident of Augusta, Georgia and devoted her adult life to caring for the aging. Jean worked for Beverly Manor and Westwood Nursing home, where she worked for many years until her retirement.
Jean devoted her life to Christ as a child and was baptized as a young woman at Sherwood Baptist Church. Her faith allowed her to weather many storms and provided shelter for those closest to her. Jean loved celebrating life and was known to many as “the life of the party”. She invested her time in getting to know others and had a goal of making everyone feel included and loved. Her sense of humor and zest for life was infectious and will never be forgotten. Jean found the most comfort in retirement spending time with her daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren, and extended family. When not enjoying a meal at Rhineharts, listening to Bob Seger, watching her hummingbirds, strolling through social media, watching Fox News and Magnolia Network, gardening, or sipping a cold beverage, she could be found at her family farm “The Shack”. Jean found immense joy in spending time at “The Shack” with her family and friends. She often referred to “The Shack” as the closest thing to heaven on earth.
Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters: Amy McKeen (Robert) and LaDawn Knight; her grandchildren: Halie Walden (Nathan), Amber Moore (Matt), Lindsey Murray (Ernie), Nicholas DeLaney, Nicholas McKeen, Jacob McKeen; her great grandchildren: Betty Ann, Winsdae, Marlowe, DeLaney; her brother: Reverand Lenard Quick; 21 amazing nieces and nephews that adored their aunt Jean.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents: Norman and Lucille Quick; her brother: Hubert Quick; her sisters: Geneva Gray, Virginia Blackburn, Ophelia Mitchell, Maurice Whitehead, Maxine Moxley; her nephews: Keith Moxley, Tommy Mitchell.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Daryl Cox officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at the funeral home.
