Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, July 12, 2011, Mrs. Opal Chalker Hammett, 85, wife of the late Ralph Hammett.
Mrs. Hammett was a native of Gibson, GA. She graduated from Glascock County High School. She was a teller at the Bank of Gibson. In 1950 she married Ralph Hammett and in 1961 they moved to Augusta. Mrs. Hammett worked at Davison’s then Macy’s Department Store in the Jewelry Department.
Family members include son: Lynn David Hammett of Atlanta, sister: Cloise Chalker Kent. Mrs. Hammett was preceded in death by son: Ralph “Terry” Hammett.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity on the Hill UMC,
1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904 or to Bethel United Methodist Church, in care of Renae Kelley 585 E. Main Street, Gibson, GA 30810.
