Oudone Volarath was born in Laos in 1936. He moved to Thailand at a very young age (9-years old) to stay with a monk (his uncle) at a temple in Thailand to continue his education. Oudone earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He met his wife of 58 years, Soontree Volarath, and the couple were married in 1967. The young family moved to Augusta, GA and became citizens in 1975.
Oudone was very passionate working for the U.S. government. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War (1955-1975) as a radio/communication specialist. After arriving in Augusta, GA, he continued to work with the military teams at Fort Gordon as a civilian contractor for the FEDERAL ELECTRIC CORP (FEC) -- 1980 – 1987, PAN AMERICAN WORLD SERVICES (PAWS) 1987 – 1989, Johnson Controls World Services (JCWS) -- 1989 – 2005, IAP World Services (IAP) – 2005, Akima Facilities Management (AMF/ IAPWS) -- 2006 – 2014 and Wolverine (WOL) – 2014-2016. Oudone passed away on March 11, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Soontree Volarath, son and daughter, Thom and Patra Volarath.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 2:00 in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM on Sunday until the time of the service.
