Patricia Mangum

Augusta, GA – Patricia Strauss Mangum, 85, died peacefully, surrounded by family at Augusta Regents Medical Center on February 26, 2016.

A lifelong resident of Augusta, Pat was the daughter of the late Hillary Harrison Mangum and Marie Strauss Mangum. Surviving are sister Grace Mangum Kisner (Greenville, SC) and nephews John Leonard Kisner (Austin, TX) and Harrison Mangum Kisner (Greenville, SC), her adored great-niece Elizabeth Kisner (Greenville, SC), dear cousins Mike and Emily Askew (Augusta, GA) and longtime caregiver and friend Vertis Woods (Augusta, GA) .

Stricken with osteomyelitis at age five Pat endured numerous orthopaedic surgeries and painful recoveries as she inspired others with her resolve. Pat laughed that she was the first home-schooler, taught by her mother while bedridden in early years. All who knew Pat’s lifelong struggle with physical hardships were touched by her persistence and independence. Pat graduated from Tubman High School and Wesleyan University. For 38 years she worked at the Medical College of Georgia where she knew and touched many with her wit, warmth and dedication, becoming a valued administrator and pillar in the medical education of so many. Pat loved her church and her friends at First Baptist Augusta, serving for years as Deacon and on the Personnel Committee. Pat spent her later years at Brandon Wilde in Evans, GA where she enjoyed the constant company of friends old and new and most recently she received loving care from the staff of the Pavilion.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Augusta.

Family will host a memorial service in the coming weeks at Brandon Wilde, details to be arranged. (Thomas Poteet and Son - Davis Rd).
