Augusta, GA – Patricia Carole Swain Costen of Augusta, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the age of 78.
Mrs. Costen was a native and longtime resident of Augusta and a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia, her Physical Therapy degree from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California. Mrs. Costen worked for many years as a Physical Therapist and was a faculty member at Georgia State University. She also served on the Georgia Board of Physical Therapy when Jimmy Carter was Governor. In 1972, she met and married LTC. Charles B. Costen (US Army Ret.). They were happily married for 32 years before his death in 2004.
Her family members include her sister-in-law: Jennie Swain; nephews: Michael Swain (Lynne) and Mark Swain (Phyllis); nieces: Kay Walters (Les) and Nancy Garrett (Mike); great nieces, great nephews and their families; step-daughters: Cindy Costen, Carol Pinto, Cathy Hague and Connie Farmer and their families. Mrs. Costen was preceded in death by her parents: Jamie Wylie Swain, Sr. and Fannie Mae Carswell Swain; brother: Jamie Wylie Swain, Jr. and her step-mother: Anne Swain.
A funeral service will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta at 3500 Walton Way Ext, Augusta, GA 30909.
