Paul James Brucker passed away on Wednesday, November 6th, at the age of 85.
Paul was born in Philadelphia, PA to Paul and Sarah Brucker, the oldest of 3 boys. His parents raised Paul and his brothers on Cybus Way in Southampton, PA. He was a 1957 graduate of William Tennent High School in Warminster, PA where he was part of the football team. Paul earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia where he also worked as a costumed waiter in the Kings Arms Tavern. He proceeded to earn a master’s degree and doctorate in education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where his two sons were born.
In 1969, Paul began working at the Medical College of Georgia eventually becoming director of Continuing Education and had a full career there until his retirement in July of 2000. Paul loved people and enjoyed working in his retirement at Fatman’s Forest, Posey Funeral Home and Acute Care Veterinary Clinic. He had been a resident at the Claiborne at Westlake since the spring of 2019. Paul was well-loved by everyone he came in contact with including all the staff at the Claiborne. Paul was a longtime member at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and most recently had been attending First Presbyterian Church of Augusta.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Debbie who he was married to for 26 years and was a faithful father to two boys and loving stepfather to two stepdaughters and he also loved and enjoyed his 14 grandchildren. He is survived by his two sons; Steven Brucker (Shelley) of Millers Creek, NC and Mark Brucker (Gaby) of Augusta, GA, two stepdaughters; Shellie Cordero (Chris) of Texarkana, AR and Kimberly Wright of Montgomery, AL, grandchildren; Nicholas Brucker, Ella Suznevich (Ethan), Susana Brucker, Madison Wright, Conlan Wright, Clara Brucker, Benjamin Brucker, Gwendolyn Person, Talmage Wright, Henry Person, Charlie Person, Grayson Wright, Lydia Wright, Emersen Wright and great granddaughter Elsie Chase Suznevich, two brothers; Linn Brucker (Pat), and Lee Brucker and several nieces and nephews.
He so loved and appreciated all of the staff at the Claiborne at Westlake who loved and cared for him over the last 5 years and had a very special appreciation for Melinda Harris and Nicholas Bacon from Caring from the Heart of Georgia.
Interment has already occurred at Westover Memorial Park. Paul’s memorial service will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors at 214 Davis Rd. The family will visit friends following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Via Cognitive Health (Jud C. Hickey Center for Alzheimer’s Care).
