Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, December 7, 2009 at University Hospital, Paul Ellis May, Sr., 87.
Mr. May was the husband of the late Mary Anna Chalker May. Mr. & Mrs. May were married for 62 years. Mr. May was a World War II Navy fighter pilot. He was a native of Washington County and had lived in Augusta most of his life. He worked for Bell South for 42 and ½ years. Mr. May was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and a member of French Bible Class for 48 years. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He graduated in 1941 from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
Family members include his daughter and son-in-law; Anna Marie and Tom Spain of Augusta; sons and daughters-in-laws: Rev. Dr. Philip and Delaine May of Rome; Paul E. May, Jr. and Lori May of North Augusta, and their daughter, Jennifer and grandchildren, Caroline and Katie; Sister; Carolyn Brassell of Augusta, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at St Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Dane Wagner officiating. Interment will be at Westover Memorial Park. Friends may call at 488 Cambridge Way, Martinez, GA. Pallbearers will be: Tim Chalker, Bob Darden, Charles Darden, Milton Chalker, Danny Clover, Michael Curley, Stan Brassell and Charlie Glover. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the French Bible Class.
The May family expresses their gratitude for the love and care shown to their father by the Palliative Care Unit of University Hospital, to Dr. West and the staff at University Medical Associates, NHC, the Georgia War Veterans Nursing home and his personal care givers.
