Augusta, Ga - Mr. Paul Edwards Petersen, Sr., 87, entered into rest on Monday, September 19, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Slaton and Frederick L. Petersen, his brother Frederick L. Petersen, Jr. and by his grandson, James Elliot Lowry, Jr. Paul was born on March 22, 1929 and was a lifelong resident of Augusta.
After graduating from Richmond Academy, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and then went on to graduate from the Augusta Law School in1952. He owned and operated Paul E. Petersen Real Estate Company and was in the real estate business for over 50 years. He was a founding member and chairman of the Columbia County Planning and Zoning Commission, Past President of the Augusta Board of Realtors, and Past Realtor of the Year. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating and he loved to travel.
He is survived by and was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Lester Petersen for 67 years and loved to tell the tale of how they met. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother to his beloved family. He was happiest when everyone was together. Many described him as being “one of a kind.” Surviving family members in addition to his wife include his daughter and son in law, Dorothy and James Lowry, son and daughter in law, Paul and Christina Petersen, grandchildren, Paul Petersen III (Leah) and Kristen Petersen, his sister, Marjorie Swan, his beloved granddog Bella, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Cundy Jr., Vicki Smith, and Dr. Michelle Parker, and her staff for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Sherrill Dunn officiating.
